I always tell people that there are two ways to enter the tourism industry

You either choose it, or it chooses you. I fall into the latter category.

After finishing school, serving in the military, and spending a few years in the building industry, my wife and I found ourselves in Hazyview, managing a timeshare resort. That was back in 2002, and I believe that’s when my love for the wild truly began. Surrounded by the bush, it was impossible not to be captivated by the animals, big and small. I even remember borrowing a pair of binoculars from my dad to start birdwatching.

Fast forward a couple of years, and we needed a bigger vehicle to accommodate our growing family. We ended up getting a VW Caravelle, and before long, we found ourselves buying another one to meet the growing demand from local tour operators who wanted to rent it. Of course, everything was above board with all the necessary paperwork in place. And that’s how GAP Tours & Transfers was born in 2005.

The natural progression from there was to become a qualified nature and cultural guide in 2007. As a naturally gregarious person who loves talking to people, sharing fascinating information became a true passion. There’s no better feeling than witnessing someone’s first sighting of an animal they’ve always dreamed of seeing.
