A Passion for Nature, Wildlife and Conservation
My name is Gareth Zitha, and I am a passionate ecotourism guide with a deep connection to wildlife, nature and conservation.
I was born in Somerset, a village near the Sabi Sands and Kruger National Park. Growing up surrounded by nature and in a close-knit community inspired my love for wildlife and shaped the career path I follow today. My connection with the Kruger National Park began through my mother’s work at Selati in Skukuza, now known as Shalati Station, and the park has remained a place of inspiration and discovery throughout my life.
I began my career as a nature guide in the Crocodile Bridge area, near Marloth Park, where I gained valuable experience leading both day and night safaris. These experiences allowed me to encounter many incredible species, including nocturnal animals that are rarely seen. One of my most memorable sightings was observing a leopard at close range. The leopard has since become one of my favourite animals because of its fascinating behaviour, particularly its ability to protect its hard-earned meals by carrying them into trees to avoid competition from other predators, such as hyenas.
What inspires me most as a guide is the opportunity to share my knowledge with visitors and encourage others, especially young people, to understand the importance of protecting our natural environment and wildlife.
In June 2026, I began an exciting new chapter with GAP Tours & Transfers. I am proud to share my passion for nature and guiding with our guests, creating meaningful experiences and helping them discover the beauty of the African bush.
For me, guiding is more than a job, it is a way of life. Every tour is an opportunity to inspire curiosity, create lasting memories and help people develop a deeper connection with nature.
